Product Photography for E-Commerce: A Practical Guide for Pune Sellers

How Pune sellers can plan product photos that meet marketplace guidelines, build trust with shoppers and reduce returns, with or without a professional studio.

Shoppers cannot touch or try your product online. Photos do that job for them. Good images increase clicks from search results, help shoppers decide and reduce returns caused by mismatched expectations.

The images every listing needs

Plan a set of images rather than a single hero shot:

  1. 1Main image on a pure white background, showing the whole product clearly.
  2. 2Alternate angles: front, back, side and top where relevant.
  3. 3Detail shots of texture, stitching, finish, ports or labels.
  4. 4Scale reference: the product in a hand, on a table or next to a familiar object.
  5. 5Lifestyle images showing the product in use.
  6. 6Infographic images that highlight key features or dimensions.

Meeting marketplace guidelines

Each marketplace publishes image requirements on size, background and what is allowed on the main image. Breaking them can suppress a listing. Check the current rules in your seller portal before a shoot, especially for categories like fashion and jewellery that often have stricter guidelines.

Doing it in-house

A small business can produce good results with modest equipment:

  • A smartphone with a good camera, mounted on a tripod.
  • Two soft light sources, or a large window with diffused daylight.
  • A white sweep made from a sheet of white card or a light tent.
  • A consistent setup, marked on the floor, so every product is shot the same way.

When to use a professional

Consider a professional studio in Pune for launch products, premium ranges, fashion on models, or when you need many images quickly. Share a clear shot list in advance so the session produces exactly what each listing needs.

Editing and file preparation

  • Correct colour so the product looks as it does in real life.
  • Remove dust and blemishes, but do not alter the product itself.
  • Export at the resolution marketplaces recommend so zoom works.
  • Name files with the SKU so they are easy to upload and manage.

Images on your own website

If you also sell on your own website, compress images and serve modern formats so pages load quickly. Our website speed guide explains how.
